Edelman’s Unitary nature of consciousness
Nobel Prize Laureate Gerald Edelman stresses the singleness, unitary nature of conscious experience. “One extraordinary phenomenal feature of conscious experience is that normally it is all of a piece- it is unitary” . “It is integrated, but at the same time, highly differenciated.” (p.61)
If it is true, and I believe it is, splitting of consciousness, by definition, cannot occur, as consciousness is unitary and not indivisible.
