A SP with a voice of her mother
A
young female tutor, Ms., is teaching a teen-age boy at his house. Once very
irritated and frustrated as her pupil would not even try to focus on his task,
she started gently to redirect and reprimand him. Gradually her tone of voice
switched and started to take on the tone of that of her mother who used to be
very punitive and harsh in B’s childhood. B was aware of what was happening and
tried to calm down and lower her tone of voice. However, B realized that the
change of her voice occurred automatically and it was beyond her control. B
felt that she was controlled by a SP who has a very similar tone of voice that
her mother had, with similar use of wording and expression. The boy has started
to look very scared and bewildered. Later he reported to his parents that he
was verbally abused by B and she was fired.
